Since the conclusion of the 2024 football season, the Broncos have made significant strides in strengthening their football program.
Coaching Staff Update
On Feb. 11, WMU announced the hiring of Chris O’Leary as the new defensive coordinator and safeties coach. O’Leary joins the Broncos after serving as the safeties coach for the Los Angeles Chargers during the 2024 season, where he contributed to the team’s playoff appearance and the development of All-Pro safety Derwin James Jr. Prior to his tenure in the NFL, O’Leary spent six seasons at Notre Dame, progressing from defensive analyst to safeties coach. Head coach Lance Taylor expressed enthusiasm about the addition, highlighting O’Leary’s experience and proven track record in developing elite talent.
Recruitment and Roster Enhancements
In mid-January, the Broncos announced the addition of 24 new student-athletes to the team. This group comprises 14 offensive players, including one quarterback, three running backs, four wide receivers, four offensive linemen, and two tight ends, as well as 10 defensive players, featuring three defensive linemen, one linebacker, three safeties, and three cornerbacks. The new recruits come from a diverse range of backgrounds: 13 are transfers from FBS programs, five from FCS programs, four from community colleges, and one directly from high school.
